"Matthias Uhl, managing director of Riedhammer GmbH, a maker of industrial furnaces in Bavaria, said that his firm was once again exploring possible contracts in Iran, which used to be one of the firm’s top 15 markets. Under the sanctions regime, the company was restricted to supplying spare parts for existing furnaces, a negligible source of business. Earlier this year, a Riedhammer sales executive visited Tehran and checked in with former customers. 'The old connections are still working, I have to say,' said Mr. Uhl. 'They are just waiting for us to come and begin again.' Not all the news was good: In the intervening years Chinese suppliers have begun selling industrial furnaces to Iran at lower prices. But overall Mr. Uhl sounded optimistic. The visit by Mr. Gabriel was 'a clear political signal that now we want to go forward together again and find solutions for the open problems that we have.'" "Holiday airline Germania collapsed on Tuesday and canceled all flights immediately, the latest to succumb to turbulence in the European airline industry as it failed to secure financing to navigate a short-term cash squeeze....The carrier’s 37 aircraft mainly flew German sun-seekers to more than 60 destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The Berlin-based company, founded in 1986, also offered flights to less conventional destinations including Iran, Iraq and Armenia." (Reuters, 2/5/2019).

"A direct Tehran-Berlin flight re-launched after 10 years during a ceremony attended by Iran's Ambassador to Germany Ali Majedi at Berlin's Schoenefeld Airport, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Feb. 23. German company Germania Airlines, which has signed an agreement with Iran's Civil Aviation Organization to launch five weekly flights to Iran from Germany, inaugurated its first direct-flight from Berlin to Tehran on the evening of Feb. 22. Majedi said that re-launching direct flights between Iran and Germany capitals is an important development, adding there has been growing demand for flights between the two countries as a result of the expansion of German-Iranian economic ties. Germania Airlines is going to conduct two weekly flights from Berlin to Tehran and two from Dusseldorf to Tehran as well as one flight per week from Hamburg to Mashhad." "Iran acknowledged on Saturday that oil swap deals with Caspian Sea producers had stopped, but said it was seeking talks with some oil companies on new terms.  Industry sources said in May that producers would suspend oil swaps with Iran from June 1 after Tehran steeply raised fees on operations to avoid an oil glut following lower sales of its own crude. They said Iran had deliberately made it uneconomic... Mehr named four firms it said had shown lack of interest in renewing swaps: Dragon Oil, Vitol, Select Energy Trading and Caspian Oil Development." "Companies across Germany have quietly rekindled once-strong commercial ties with Iran, industry officials said… ‘The market will explode when the embargo gets lifted,’ predicted Stephanie Spinner-König, managing director of high-tech component maker Spinner GmbH and a participant in one of two German business delegations that visited Iran this year...'Companies are already trying to sign letters of intent with Iranian trading partners to get a foot in the market,' said Juliane Emami, project manager at conference organizer Management Circle AG... Ms. Spinner-König of Spinner exemplifies the first wave. Her company generated less than €100,000 in sales from Iran last year, a fraction of its €80 million in revenue.  'Iran is certainly not our biggest export market, but it's clear that they have a big investment backlog and that a lot more is possible,' she said."
