UANI Calls for Full Economic Blockade Following President Obama's Speech to the UN General Assembly
New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement after President Obama's address to the UN General Assembly:
We applaud President Obama for pledging to do whatever it takes to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Now, it is imperative that the U.S. use all of its leverage to economically isolate the Iranian regime, in addition to requisite diplomacy, special operations, and military planning.
The Obama administration must adopt the most robust sanctions policy in history: an economic blockade of Iran. Countries and business around the world must be forced to choose between doing business with the United States or doing business with Iran.
The time for nipping at the corners has passed; the U.S. must now act decisively. Legislation imposing such an embargo should be modeled on the following UANI proposal: any business, firm, or entity that does work in Iran shall be barred from receiving U.S. government contracts, accessing U.S. capital markets, entering into commercial partnerships with U.S. entities, or otherwise doing business in the U.S. or with U.S. entities.
At the point that any entity has to choose between doing business in the U.S. or in Iran, it will make the right decision, and in turn isolate the regime.
UANI continues to be headquartered at the Warwick Hotel today, and will demonstrate with signs, activities, flyers, and protests. UANI's campaign has been covered by CNN, the Associated Press, Reuters, The Christian Science Monitor, New York Daily News, PIX 11 News, Fox 5 News,CBS 880 Radio, Agence France Presse, 1010 WINS Radio, and the New York Post (here, here, here), as well as by local television stations in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Pennsylvania.
