UANI Applauds Senator Cardin for Principled Stand Against Iran Deal

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) today applauded U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, for his principled opposition to the Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

UANI CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace said:

It speaks volumes that the bipartisan leadership of Congress's foreign relations committees opposes the Iran nuclear deal, as do most Americans. We thank Senator Cardin for his principled opposition to the agreement, based on a careful analysis of its provisions. Senator Cardin has long led congressional efforts to prevent a nuclear Iran, and his position sends a powerful signal to others that the deal falls far short.

Americans across the political spectrum want elected officials to rise above partisanship and do what they think is best for our country-and Senator Cardin has done that. He deserves respect and appreciation for his stance and not the withering personal attacks that have unfortunately followed principled actions like his. The Iran deal should be supported or opposed purely on its merits. Attacks on someone's integrity or character should have no place in this critical American national security debate.

On August 25, United Against Nuclear Iran Action (UANI Action) launched seven billboards across Baltimore calling on Maryland Senators Cardin and Barbara Mikulski to oppose the Iran nuclear deal. The seven billboards read: "Ask Senators Mikulski and Cardin to Stand Strong and Oppose the Iran Nuclear Deal." UANI Action is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy group organized under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code and promotes legislation and public policy aimed at preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
