UANI Applauds Moldova for Ending Its Reflagging of Iranian Vessels

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement Monday regarding the Republic of Moldova and Iranian shipping vessels:

Moldova has now confirmed that it has stopped its recent reflagging of Iranian vessels and will not restart any such activities. We accept Moldova's pledge, and applaud Moldovan officials for making this responsible decision.

We call on the international community to impose a complete shipping blockade on the Iranian regime. No country should flag Iranian vessels.

On September 20, UANI called on the Moldova to stop reflagging Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) vessels.

The prominent shipping services Bureau Veritas, Germanischer Lloyd, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, the Korean Register of Shipping, and ClassNK all recently stopped certifying Iranian vessels in response to UANI.

UANI has highlighted the shipping industry as an area where the international community can further pressure Iran. In a March 17 Wall Street Journal Op-Ed, six UANI board members wrote that "the world must deny Iran's access to international shipping, a move that would severely affect the regime given its dependence on global trade and seaborne crude oil exports."
