UANI Urges Passage of Iran Sanctions Legislation, Calls for Full Economic Blockade on Iranian Regime

New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, issued the following statement today regarding the House and Senate's reported agreement on Iran sanctions legislation:

We applaud House and Senate negotiators for agreeing to important Iran sanctions legislation, and call for its Swift passage into law. The legislation contains important provisions related to Iran's energy sector and basic financial activities long advocated by UANI, including obligating companies that avail themselves of U.S. stock markets to disclose Iran-related business to the SEC, and impeding the repatriation of oil sales to Iran.

Still, while this legislation will further isolate the Iranian regime, UANI has long called for much more in the form of a full economic blockade of the regime. Completely isolating the regime is the best hope to prevent it from developing a nuclear weapons capability and avoid military action. Unfortunately, this legislation falls short of that goal. To impose the most robust sanctions in history on the Iranian regime, UANI will initiate a campaign calling on all members of Congress to sign a pledge in support of a full economic blockade of Iran.

We express our gratitude to the tireless staffs of Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Senator Johnson's offices for all of the important work that they did on this legislation.
